§ Mr. GOULDasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will lay upon the Table of this House a Return of the cases within the knowledge of the Board which would be affected by the War Charges (Validity) Bill introduced by him, with short particulars of each?
§ Viscount WOLMEREvery case in which a payment was made under any of the schemes referred to in the White Paper, Command 1843, which I recently issued would be affected by the Bill. I do not think the expense and labour involved in compiling particulars of each case would be justified.
§ Mr. WISEasked the President of the Board of Trade how many claims, and for what total amount, have actually been made which would be nullified by the War Charges (Validity) Bill; and of these claims how many are statute barred by existing legislation?
§ Viscount WOLMERSeven such claims have been made, amounting to £155,000. None of them, it is thought, are barred by existing legislation.
