HC Deb 17 April 1923 vol 162 cc1891-2W
Mr. GOULD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will lay upon the Table of this House a Return of the cases within the knowledge of the Board which would be affected by the War Charges (Validity) Bill introduced by him, with short particulars of each?

Viscount WOLMER

Every case in which a payment was made under any of the schemes referred to in the White Paper, Command 1843, which I recently issued would be affected by the Bill. I do not think the expense and labour involved in compiling particulars of each case would be justified.

Mr. WISE

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many claims, and for what total amount, have actually been made which would be nullified by the War Charges (Validity) Bill; and of these claims how many are statute barred by existing legislation?

Viscount WOLMER

Seven such claims have been made, amounting to £155,000. None of them, it is thought, are barred by existing legislation.
