§ Lieut. - Colonel LANE - FOXThe number of mines producing lead that have been closed since the War and are still closed is 52, and the number of persons employed in them 1,000; the corresponding figures for mines producing tin are 55 and 3,282 respectively. Similar particulars for quarries are not available, but 5,208 quarries employing 67,489 persons were working in 1922 as compared with 3,837 quarries employing 40,790 persons in 1918.
