HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 c1319W
Mr. A. BENNETT

asked the President of the Board of Education if he can, by counties, give the numbers of free places in the secondary schools which have already been cut down as a result of the policy of economy now being practised by his Department?

Mr. WOOD

Under Article 20 of the Regulations for Secondary Schools, the number of free places offered in any school year is considered in relation to the total number of pupils admitted in the previous year. The Board have not required the percentage to be reduced below the percentage awarded in the school year ending 31st July, 1922, and I do not propose to do so.
