HC Deb 12 April 1923 vol 162 cc1313-4W
Mr. J. A. PARKINSON

asked the Minister of Pensions if he will consider the case of the widow of the late Private Heaton, No. 44,034, Durham Light Infantry, whose son has won a scholarship to the Hindley and Abram Grammar School, where he is now attending, but which imposes great hardship upon the mother to provide his maintenance; and whether, in view of these facts, he will authorise a grant to be made so that the boy could take full advantage of the opportunity he has secured by winning the scholarship in open competition?

Major TRYON

The application for an education grant in this case has received careful consideration, but I regret that the facts do not justify an award under the regulations of the Special Grants Committee.
