HC Deb 21 March 1922 vol 152 cc269-70W
Sir T. BRAMSDON

asked the Secretary of State for War if the Territorial bounty of £5 annually is being reduced to £3; and, if so, will he explain why?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

The bounty will be reduced for new entrants and men extending their service in the Territorial Army; the future amounts and conditions will be published shortly. I explained the necessity for this and other reductions of expenditure on the Territorial Army in my speech on the 15th March on the introduction of Army Estimates for 1922–23.

Sir F. HALL

asked the Secretary of State for War how many divisions there are in the Territorial Army at the present time; and what are the respective numbers of officers and men belonging thereto?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

There are in the Territorial Army at present one cavalry division (less one cavalry brigade) and 14 infantry divisions. The numbers of officers and other ranks on 1st March last were 6,384 and 111,155 respectively.
