HC Deb 21 March 1922 vol 152 c279W
Sir N. MOORE

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the alarming increase in the number of brutal crimes that are being committed in different parts of this country and the fact that in so many cases the perpetrators have not been brought to justice, he will take the necessary steps to provide for the more efficient protection of the lives and property of citizens?

Mr. SHORTT

I am not aware that there is any increase in the number of such cases where the perpetrators escape detection. The police authorities are constantly endeavouring to improve the efficiency of the detective service, and it must be remembered that the fact that in some cases the perpetrator of a crime escapes detection does not prove that the best possible detective measures have not been employed by the police.
