HC Deb 02 March 1922 vol 151 c595W
Mr. T. GRIFFITHS

asked the Home Secretary whether the foremen of works and engineers in the English Prisons Service are supplied with uniforms distinct from all other ranks; whether they are permitted to wear plain clothes; if so, what cash allowance in lieu of uniform do they receive; and the amount of annual leave to which they are entitled?

Mr. SHORTT

Foremen of works do not wear uniform, but receive an allowance in lieu, which at present is 5s. 6d. a week. Engineers are supplied with uniforms distinct from other ranks and are not allowed to wear plain clothes while on duty. Foremen of works and Class I engineers are allowed 21 days' leave a year, Class II engineers, 18 days.
