HC Deb 02 March 1922 vol 151 cc580-1W
Mr. G. MURRAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what would be the cost to the Treasury per annum of a reduction in the Beer Tax of a 1d. a pint, in the Tea Duty of a 1d. a pound, and a 1d. a pound on sugar?

Mr. YOUNG

The estimated cost to the revenue of a reduction of 1d. per pint in the duty on beer as now sold would be approximately £26 million. A reduction of 1d. per lb. in the duties on tea and sugar would cost approximately £1½ million and £11 million respectively.
