§ Mr. FORRESTasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has received a deputation from the Advisory Committee of the Overseas Trade Department in order 404W that they might explain the serious effect on industry which would result in the adoption of the Geddes proposals; and whether, in view of the fact that the whole of the members of this Advisory Committee are independent business men, capable of expressing opinions on behalf of the commercial community as a whole, he will state what reply he was able to give?
Mr. YOUNGMy right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer was not able to arrange an interview with the four members of the Advisory Committee selected to wait upon him on this matter, but he was able to see two of these gentlemen who placed the views of the Committee before him. As regards the latter part of the question, I would ask my hon. Friend to await the statement which my right hon. Friend is making this afternoon.
