Captain TERRELLasked the Prime Minister what policy is adopted by the various Departments of State towards the different Reports of the Committee on Estimates; whether the economies suggested are considered; if so, by whom; how the House of Commons is to know the exact result of the recommendations of its own Committee; and whether he will give instructions that each Department is to report to the House the result of its consideration of the Report affecting its administration?
Mr. YOUNGThe recommendations of the Committee receive full consideration by the Departments concerned and by the Treasury. The three Reports issued recently make recommendations on one or two points only, and in due course I 487W shall take steps to inform the House how far it has been practicable to give effect to these suggestions.
