Mr. HOPE SIMPSONasked the Minister of Labour, as representing the Ministry of Health, whether he is aware that a sewage disposal scheme is under contemplation for the town of Taunton; how far has that scheme progressed; will a grant towards the cost be made by the Ministry of Health; and, in view of the distress of the unemployed in Taunton at the present time, will he use his influence in the matter so that the work may be commenced immediately?
§ Major BOYD-CARPENTERAn application for approval to this scheme was received in the Ministry of Health in September last, and a reply was sent at once to the town council asking for plans and estimates, which, however, have not yet been furnished. The matter will be taken up as soon as the necessary particulars are received from the town council.
