§ Mr. G. HURSTasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what ratio the proposed reductions in the rates of pay for temporary women civil servants boar to the corresponding reductions, if any, in the rates of pay to temporary men clerks; and whether he will grant an interview to a deputation of the women civil servants concerned as to the effect of these reductions on their standard of living?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe agreed rates and scales of pay of temporary men clerks and of temporary women clerks and typists which were in force from February to August, 1922, have alike been reduced by 4–41sts with effect, as regards 2–41 sts, from 1st September, 1922, and, as regards the remaining 2–41sts, from 1st December, 1922. These reductions were only decided upon after protracted discussions with representatives of the men and women concerned, extending over two months,1240W and no useful purpose would now be served by receiving a deputation from the women concerned.
