HC Deb 04 December 1922 vol 159 cc1255-6W
Mr. BONWICK

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many gallons of motor spirit were imported into Great Britain during the 10 months ended 31st October, 1922; what proportion of the total amount was conveyed by tank steamers; what proportion of the total imports was subsequently exported; and the amount of benzol, toluol, and coal-tar naphtha imported during the same period, together with the countries of origin?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

The total quantity of motor spirit imported into the United Kingdom from all sources during the 10 months ended 31st October, 1922, amounted to 260,928,211 gallons. I cannot say what proportion of these imports were conveyed by tank steamers, but no doubt the bulk of them were so conveyed. During the same period 22,300,055 gallons of imported motor spirit were re-exported. The total imports of benzol into the United Kingdom during the 10 months ended 31st October last amounted to 5,283,958 gallons, of which 632,836 gallons were consigned from France and 4,651,122 gallons from the United States. During the same period the imports of naphtha amounted to 5,960 gallons, all of which were consigned from the Netherlands. There were no imports of toluol registered during this period.
