HC Deb 04 December 1922 vol 159 cc1220-1W
Mr. BECKER

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, seeing that the cost of inspection of the Board of Education, 1921–22, was £966,144, he will consider whether, in the interest of national economy, this sum could be reduced and a less expensive and more efficient system of education adopted?

Mr. WOOD

The hon. Member is under a misapprehension. The salaries and allowances of the inspectorate for the year 1921–1922 came to £366,195, and the estimate for the current year is £314,650.
