HC Deb 04 December 1922 vol 159 cc1223-4W
Mr. D. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Labour if he can obtain information as to what steps are taken in other countries to cope with the problem of unemployment and lay it before the House in the form of a White Paper?

Major BOYD-CARPENTER

A good deal of information as to the steps taken in other countries to cope with the problem of unemployment will be found in the monthly issue of the Ministry of Labour Gazette. A Report, entitled "Remedies for Unemployment," has recently been issued by the International Labour Office at Geneva and contains a considerable amount of information on the subject, but it does not claim to be a full and scientific study, and I cannot say, without careful checking, how far the information contained in the Report is in all respects accurate. Copies of this Report may be found in the Library of the House or purchased from the London Correspondent of the International Labour Office, 26, Buckingham Gate, S.W.I. In view of the need for economy, my right hon. Friend hesitates to authorise the preparation of a further Report at this stage.
