Mr. ALFRED DAVIES (Clitheroe)asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that Grade 1 temporary shorthand typists are in considerable numbers now applying for City appointments, in view of the fact that the reductions proposed by the. Treasury will bring their rates considerably below those generally paid in the City for the first-class shorthand typist, and that this will cause grave inconvenience to those officials who have to dictate important correspondence; and whether, for the sake of the latter, he will make such arrangements that it is possible to retain the services of these first-grade shorthand typists?
Mr. YOUNGI have no knowledge of any such tendency as that suggested in the question, and I should be much obliged if the hon. Member would furnish me with any specific instances with which he may be acquainted.
