HC Deb 26 April 1922 vol 153 cc566-7W
Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

asked the Secretary for Scotland if he can give a statement explaining his plans for effecting the retrenchment in Scottish educational expenditure proposed by the Government?

Mr. MUNRO

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to Sub-head C of Class IV, 11 of the Civil Service Estimates. The figures there given indicate the effect upon the Grant-in-Aid of Scottish educational expenditure of the decisions arrived at by the Government. The responsibility for the consequential adjustments in the budgets of local education authorities rests upon the individual authorities, who, I have every reason to believe, are carefully considering how this and such other retrenchments as they may deem necessary or desirable can best be effected.
