HC Deb 11 April 1922 vol 153 cc255-6W
Lieut.-Colonel HENDERSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Scottish Board of Health when the 1,890 State-assisted houses in course of construction in Glasgow will be completed; if their erection is absorbing all the available and suitable building trades labour in the district; if not, why work on the 1,919 remaining houses sanctioned has not yet been begun; when it will be begun; and when the total number of houses sanctioned will be completed?

Mr. PRATT

It is hoped that the 1,890 houses referred to in the first part of the question will be completed within a year. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative. The commencement of work on the remaining 1,919 houses, contracts for 600 of which have not yet been placed by the Town Council, is principally governed by the resources of the contractors engaged, who have commenced new houses during the last six months at an average rate of 119 per month. At the present stage it is not practicable to state when the whole scheme will have been begun or completed.
