HC Deb 04 April 1922 vol 152 cc2060-2W
Major GLYN

asked the hon. Member for the Pollok Division of Glasgow, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, what is the value of the building and site of the Royal Geological Museum in Jermyn Street, Piccadilly; and, seeing that this museum would be as well accommodated in the neighbourhood of South Kensington, and that the sale of this valuable site would be advantageous at the present time, will he consider the possibility of making an arrangement on these lines?

Sir J. GILMOUR

The approximate value of the building occupied by the Royal Geological Museum in Jermyn Street is estimated as it stands at £80,000. The site is the property of the Office of Woods, and I understand that they are not at present in a position to assess its value, nor perhaps would it be desirable for any estimate to be made public. I take note of the hon. Member's suggestion for the better development of this property, but a question of policy is raised upon which I do not feel prepared to offer an opinion.
