§ Sir A. HOLBROOKasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that a junior administrative officer, who had been acting as statistical officer in the London district and as secretary to a joint panel set up by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Pensions advising on the assessment of alternative retired pay, has been discharged and that he will be replaced by an official now employed as an inspector of the Civil Liabilities Department, but on next year's Estimates as an inspector of the Appointments Department, an entirely new post, at a salary of £600 a year; is he satisfied that the past record of this official justifies his selection for this new appointment; and will he state what salary he has hitherto received?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAMy hon. and gallant Friend appears to have been misinformed. In consequence of the necessity for effecting staff economies, the duties hitherto performed by the officer referred to will, as from 1st April, 1922, be divided between other officers of the Appointments Department, and his post will be retrenched. The post of inspector in the Appointments Branch is not a new one as the holder has performed the duties of the post, together with other administrative duties, since February, 1921, at a salary of £600 per annum inclusive.
