HC Deb 31 May 1921 vol 142 cc864-5W
Lieut.-Colonel CROFT

asked the Home Secretary (1) what was the number of immigrants into the United Kingdom during the 12 months ending 31st December, 1920; what number of such immigrants passed through the country; what number remained;

(2) what was the number of Russians, Poles, and Finns who entered and remained in this country during the year 1920?

Mr. SHORTT

The hon. and gallant Member will find the fullest available information in the Quarterly Returns presented to Parliament. The following figures taken from those" Returns will, I think, substantially answer his questions:

427, 246 aliens entered, and 420,836 left the United Kingdom last year.

Of Russians, 11,167 entered, and 12,110 left. The figures of Finns and Poles were not shown separately till the last six months of the year. During that period, 4,439 Finns entered, 4,652 left; 31,197 Poles entered, 31,319 left.
