Sir J. D. REESasked the Home Secretary why he will not receive a deputation from those primarily interested regarding the draft Regulations under the Dangerous Drugs Act; and whether he is aware of the general consternation and alarm felt at the prospect of the Regulation of the sale of drugs in the United Kingdom being dictated by gentlemen at Geneva having 2046W no knowledge of or special interest in the requirements of those needing and selling drugs in the United Kingdom?
§ Mr. SHORTTThe hon. Baronet is mistaken. I am perfectly willing to meet representatives of the different bodies interested and discuss the points which they raise on the draft Regulations with them. The Regulations have nothing to do with any gentlemen at Geneva; the Dangerous Drugs Act, under which they are framed, was passed in order to carry out our obligations under the Treaty of Versailles and the International Opium Convention of 1912.
