Captain CRAIGasked the Chief Secretary whether Constable Fleming, Royal Irish Constabulary, was killed in a motor lorry accident in which the lorry, filled with Royal Irish constables on active service, ran into a gate in the dark; whether the accident was in consequence of an order that no lights were to be carried and that the speed at which the lorry was driven was much in excess of what was safe without lights; whether the conditions existing at the moment of the constable's death were those of active service; whether the constable lost his life owing to circumstances arising out of the state of rebellion existing in Ireland to the same extent as though he had been killed by being shot; and whether therefore the widow of the constable can 2025W be granted the pension payable to a Royal Irish constable killed as the result of enemy action?
