HC Deb 03 March 1921 vol 138 c2024W
Mr. GRUNDY

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the union of Castlecomer was raided by Crown Forces during the progress of a meeting of the board of guardians and that a member of the Forces seated himself at the table with the guardians and amused himself by dodging a bomb and going through the motion of flinging it; and whether this form of intimidating public representatives has the sanction of the authorities?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I am informed that a party of Crown Forces visited the board room at Castlecomer in the martial law area on the 7th ultimo for the purpose of arresting several members of the board of guardians, who were wanted for serious offences, and might possibly have attended the meeting. Several documents of a seditious character were seized, but the allegation of intimidation in the manner described in the hon. Member's question is denied.
