§ Sir R. BLADESasked the Postmaster-General what is the Telephone Directory costing at present, now that it is being produced at the Government printing works; and why tenders for its production were not invited from printing firms capable of undertaking this work?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe total cost (for printing and paper) of the first issue of the complete directories—London and provincial—produced at the Government Printing Works at Harrow was £71,702. For subsequent issues the cost will be approximately £48,900. After full consideration, it was decided that it would be more economical to print the Telephone Directories at the Government Printing Works than to give the work to a private contractor.
