HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 cc927-8W
Mr. HANNON

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the nature of the investigation which took place to determine the causes of the losses of stores, amounting to £474,221, which took place at 163 store depots, according to the statement on page 9 of the Ministry of Munitions Appropriation Account, 1919–20?

Mr. YOUNG

I have been asked to answer this question. The deficiencies were disclosed on Departmental Audit by the Ministry of Munitions, and were due to the fact that the ledger balances were unreliable owing to War conditions. I may say that surpluses amounting to £459,883 were disclosed on the same audit, and that it is not considered that any actual losses of appreciable amount have been incurred.
