HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 cc923-4W
Sir D. DAVIES

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give the option to any firm desiring to take stock on 30th June in lieu of 31st August provided they agree to make their claim for the return of Excess Profits Duty on that date, 30th June, as a final claim, for the reason that the date of 31st August is very inconvenient for those engaged in the wholesale drapery trade, as the autumn season orders are sent out in August and early September, and consequently the stocks are very heavy at that date?

Mr. YOUNG

My right hon. Friend is not prepared to adopt the suggestion made by the hon. Member, which would represent a serious departure from the principle on which the proposals contained in Part I of the First Schedule of the Finance Bill are based.
