§ Major PRESCOTTasked the Minister of Health whether he will give the number of architects originally employed by the Watford Urban District Council in the preparation of lay-out plans for the council's housing scheme; and on what grounds their services were dispensed with and the amount of compensation paid in each case?
§ Sir A. MONDThe lay-out plans were prepared by one architect. For the house plans a supervising architect and a panel of five architects were employed by the council. The Ministry came to the conclusion, after a certain amount of work had been done, that this arrangement was not going to prove an economical one, and it was discontinued. I have no information of the sums actually paid to the several architects, but I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy of the letter forwarded to the council on the 27th January of last year, setting out the terms on which payments were to be made.
