HC Deb 21 February 1921 vol 138 c595W
Mr. A. SHAW

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the hardship to medical men in various localities in Scotland who are being called upon to pay twice the previous cost or more for telephone service, and are unable to bear this addition to the costs of carrying on their practice; and whether he is prepared to take any action in the matter?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I regret that a preferential tariff for the medical profession at the expense of other classes of subscribers cannot be justified, but as medical men usually originate comparatively few calls, it is unlikely that the new rates will, save in exceptional cases, add as much as 100 per cent, to the cost of the service.
