HC Deb 21 February 1921 vol 138 cc597-8W
Colonel NEWMAN

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, as the result of instructions received by him for the Cabinet Committee on expenditure, and of resolutions passed by public bodies in the London county area, entitled to speak for the ratepayer, the London education authority has intimated any modification of the scheme which they are about to put into effect under the terms of the Education Act, 1918?

Mr. FISHER

I presume the hon. Member refers to the arrangements of the London County Council for compulsory continuation schools now in operation. I have received no notification from the Council of any wish to modify these arrangements. The Council's general scheme for the development of education under the Education Act, 1918, has not yet been approved by the Board of Education, and will be dealt with by the Board in accordance with the principles laid down in Circular 1190, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
