Sir J. D. REESasked the Ministry of Transport whether he is aware of the objections entertained in the interests of Nottingham to the grouping of the Midland Railway with the London and North Western Railway, and to the grouping together of the Great Central Railway with the Great Northern, Great Eastern, and North Eastern Railways; and whether the interests of the Eastern Midlands will be further considered before these suggested groupings are regarded as settled facts?
§ Mr. NEALI am not aware of the grounds for the objections from Nottingham referred to in the hon. Baronet's question. No doubt various localities may entertain some anxiety as to the effect upon their district of the grouping proposals. My right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport hopes, in the discussions which will arise on the Bill to be introduced, to be able to show that the fears are not well founded.
