HC Deb 21 April 1921 vol 140 c2098W
Mr. T. GRIFFITHS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether allotment holders of Portsmouth and district have received notice of increase of 200 per cent. in their rent, which abnormal increases are creating anxiety and resentment among the holders; and whether he will have an immediate investigation made into the matter?

Mr. PARKER

The Ministry has ascertained that the Portsmouth Town Council, which is the allotment authority, have not made any increases in the rents of any of the allotments under their control up to the present time, and that there is no intention to do so. It is understood that Winchester College are taking steps to increase the rents of the allotments in the borough under their control, but this is not a matter in which the Ministry has any power to intervene.
