Colonel NEWMANasked the President of the Board of Education whether, 2096W in view of the fact that the London Education Authority is pressing for permission to extend the number of continuation schools, under the Education Act, 1918, beyond the number already in existence, whereas the county authority is opposed to any further increase in the burden of the rates for the present financial year, and has expressed its opinion to him to this effect, he will say what action he proposes to take in the matter?
§ Mr. FISHERI do not appreciate the distinction drawn by the hon. and gallant Member between the London Education Authority and the county authority. The London County Council, who are the Local Education Authority for London, have not informed me that they are opposed to making the provision necessary for the instruction in continuation schools of all young persons between 14 and 16 years of age to whom the provisions of Section 10 of the Education Act, 1918, apply.
