HC Deb 18 April 1921 vol 140 cc1547-8W
Mr. MYERS

asked the Minister of Health whether, in connection with the guild tender for the erection of houses under the Heywood Corporation,' he is aware that the price quoted has never been raised with the corporation, either by his Department or the Housing Commissioner; that the tender was £26,000 below that of the Heywood master builders and £16,000 less than that of the other contractor; and whether, in view of these facts, he will explain why the tender would not have been approved in any event?

Sir A. MOND

It is the fact that the guild tender was appreciably lower than the other tenders, though I cannot check the figures given by the hon. Member. The fact remains that all the tenders were too high, and I am still of opinion that lower prices ought to be obtainable for these houses. Officers of my Department have been in communication with the corporation on this aspect of the question.
