HC Deb 07 April 1921 vol 140 c461W
Mr. MYERS

asked the Chief Secretary whether he has received any complaints regarding the alleged brutal treatment of men in Cork gaol and detention camp who are recovering from hunger strike, and are still in delicate health; whether, in the case of one man named Burke, visitors are being refused permission to see him; and whether he will have inquiries made into the matter?

Mr. HENRY

As I only received notice of this question yesterday I can only reply to so much of the question as relates to these men while in civil custody from which they were removed on 24th March last. During that time no complaints were received as to their treatment, and they received every care and attention, including skilled nursing by nuns, and since the abandonment of the hunger strike a specially selected and nutritious invalid diet. They were allowed visits in accordance with the ordinary rules for untried prisoners.
