HC Deb 29 November 1920 vol 135 cc947-8W
Mr. A. T. DAVIES

asked he Minister of Transport the profits on working which accrued to the various railway railway companies from the date of the recent raising of fares until 30th September last; and what were the profits for the month ending 31st October?

Sir E. GEDDES

The net surplus for the month of September on all the business of the railway companies which affects the Government was £228,485, after meeting the guarantee. In October there was a net liability of £4,936,906, due to the effects of the coal strike, the disturbances in Ireland and the rise in wages and salaries under the sliding scale and in other items of expenditure.
