HC Deb 25 November 1920 vol 135 c655W
Mr. SEXTON

asked the Secretary of State for War how many gallons of petrol were supplied to the forces in Ireland for the past year; for how many vehicles; have the costs of the same been estimated; and how many drivers are employed?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I am informed that the amount of petrol supplied to the forces in Ireland during the past year is 1,206,000 gallons. In addition to that consumed by the Royal Air Force and the Tank Corps, the above figure includes the petrol consumed by 1,450 4-wheeled and 560 2-wheeIed War Department mechanical transport vehicles. The cost of operating these vehicles (less pay of personnel) is estimated at £50,000 a month. 1,784 mechanical transport drivers are being employed on War Department vehicles in Ireland.
