HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 c451W
Colonel P. WILLIAMS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that Charles Weston, of Donabate, and James Crinegan, of Swords, have been sentenced by court-martial to six months' hard labour for arresting without a warrant a man charged with robbery; whether it is part of the policy of the Government to prevent the enforcement of law and order; and whether, seeing that these men were engaged in a laudable work, he will direct their release and leave the robber to seek his remedy in the civil courts?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

The case of Crinegan and Weston is at present under review and the hon. and gallant Member will agree that it is not desirable to enter into its merits at this moment. Crinegan and Weston are well-known Sinn Feiners and were acting as Sinn Fein policemen.
