HC Deb 23 November 1920 vol 135 cc250-1W
Captain Sir R. BLADES

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount realised in cash since 4th August, 1914, from the assets of the London agency of the Deutsche Bank, showing the sum so realised during the control of Sir William Plender and since the Official Receiver's appointment in July, 1918, respectively; the total non-enemy liabilities discharged since 4th August, 1914, showing those paid during Sir William Plender's control and those paid by the Official Receiver, respectively; and the cash now in hand, and what further non-enemy liabilities remain to be paid?

Sir P. LLOYD-GREAME

I have been asked to reply. I have received a report from the Senior Official Receiver giving the following information, but the figures must be treated as approximate only:—

£
(1) The cash realised during the control of Sir William Plender (4th August, 1914, to 15th July, 1918) was 9,904,259
The cash realised since the appointment of the Official Receiver on the 15th July, 1918, is 148,000
Total 10,052,259
(2) The non-enemy liabilities discharged during the control of Sir William Plender (4th August, 1914, to 15th July, 1918) 8,770,466
(with interest)
The non-enemy liabilities discharged since the appointment of the Official Receiver on the 15th July, 1918 115,000
Total 8,885,466
(3) The cash in hand at the present time, excluding a sum of over £200,000 held by the Public Trustee, representing the proceeds of the sale of the bank premises and the furniture, amount to 782,057
(4) The non-enemy liabilities remaining to be paid amount to 239,000

These claims cannot be dealt with until a decision of the High Court has been obtained on an application for directions, which is now pending.
