HC Deb 23 November 1920 vol 135 c250W
Mr. KILEY

asked the First Commissioner of Works the number of business and residential premises of which his Department retain temporary possession in London; how many of the same he anticipates returning to their owners during the current year; and is he prepared to give an undertaking that he will not surrender any more temporary or exhibition buildings whilst retaining those of a commercial or residential character?

Sir A. MOND

24 business premises and 36 private houses are still retained, and it is anticipated that 9 of the former and 6 of the latter will be surrendered by the end of the current year. As regards the last part of the question, although I cannot see my way to give a definite undertaking on the lines suggested by the hon. Member, the present policy of my Department is to give priority of surrender to commercial and residential premises.
