HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 c2259W
Mr. R. YOUNG

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that some of the London hospitals are in a serious financial position, and that appeals are being made in our elementary schools to the children, and through them to the parents, for assistance to prevent some of them partly closing down or otherwise curtailing their very necessary and beneficent work; and whether any steps are likely to be taken by legislation or other means to place these institutions on a sound footing to carry on their activities in the interests of the nation?

Dr. ADDISON

In view of the urgent representations which have recently been made to me in regard to the financial position of certain of the London hospitals, I am considering what steps can be taken to meet a difficulty which I hope is only temporary, but I am not yet in a position to make a definite statement on this matter, which necessarily involves far-reaching issues.
