HC Deb 06 May 1920 vol 128 cc2256-7W
Sir F. HALL

asked the Minister of Health the total amount which it is desired to raise by means of Housing Bonds in connection with local housing schemes; what amount has been raised up to the present; and whether it is proposed to extend the period during which the Government subsidy of £150 a house will be payable?

Dr. ADDISON

The total amount required for housing purposes during the year is estimated at £120,000,000, but it is not possible to say how much of this sum will be required to be raised by means of local Housing Bonds. So far as returns at present show, the sum raised for housing is about £15,000,000, of which £2,000,000 has been raised by means of local bonds, but there are still returns outstanding from several large centres. Legislation would be necessary in order to extend the period during which the subsidy under the Housing (Additional Powers) Act, 1919, will be payable, and I am not at present prepared to make any statement on this subject.
