HC Deb 07 July 1920 vol 131 cc1475-6W
Mr. R. YOUNG

asked the Minister of Transport whether the general practice is for railway companies to remit payment for unused tickets by post; whether the London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway Company duplicate their work by sending instructions that repayment will be made at one of the company's stations, thus creating unnecessary inconvenience and loss of time to those legally entitled to such refundments; and whether he can arrange that, in future, such repayments shall be by remittance and within a definite dated period?

Mr. NEAL

The practice adopted by the railway companies in remitting payment for unused tickets is not uniform. I understand that in some instances a postal order or cheque is sent, whilst in others an order payable on presentation at any of the company's booking offices is forwarded. The question is one of detail, in which I do not think that the intervention of the Ministry of Transport is desirable.
