Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is intended to offer facilities for retirement to any lieutenants of the Royal Navy promoted from mate who may be under the age of 36 years on 1st October next?

Colonel Sir JAMES CRAIG

Under the special scheme of retirement, lieutenants promoted from mate who are under 36 years of age, and who, with the consent of the Admiralty, retire voluntarily within the period allowed, will receive a gratuity of £1,000, with an addition of £150 for each year's seniority in the confirmed rank either of lieutenant or mate.
