HC Deb 26 November 1919 vol 121 c1815W
MR. E. KELLY

asked the Minister of Transport whether representations have been made by the Postmaster-General as to the inconvenience which is suffered by the people of Donegal owing to the lateness of the delivery of the morning mail consequent on the slow running of the night mail-train from Portadown to Derry; whether he is aware that this train takes over six hours to do this journey, a distance of only ninety miles; and will he take steps to secure the accelerated running of this train?

Sir RHYS WILLIAMS

I am not aware of any such representations. Under an arrangement made in April, 1918, when a general curtailment of rail facilities in Ireland was rendered necessary by the coal shortage, the mail is being carried by goods train, which cannot be accelerated.
