HC Deb 25 November 1919 vol 121 cc1659-60W
Mr. LUNN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the report of the Aerated Bread Company, which has declared a dividend of 30 per cent., as against 15 per cent, in 1917–18, and has made a net profit of £151,950, as against £96,545 in 1917–18 and £17,080 in 1915–16; and whether he will take the necessary steps to bring sales at restaurants within the scope of the Profiteering Act?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the remainder of the question, in agreement with the Food Controller, the Profiteering Act has been applied to a large number of uncontrolled articles of food, and it is open to the local committees to hear and determine complaints relating to the sale of any articles of food to which the Act has been applied, irrespective of whether such food is sold in restaurants or not.
