HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 cc409-10W
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that Sir Edward Charlton, the British Admiral at Berlin, has appointed on his staff two members of the Women's Royal Naval Service, Miss Steven and Miss Ray; and whether he will consider the advisability of replacing these ladies by boy clerks or sub-lieutenant-pay-masters who have joined the Royal Navy for life, whereas the two ladies in question joined only for the duration of the War?

Dr. MACNAMARA

It is the case that two ex-members of the Women's Royal Naval Service have been engaged for this temporary duty at Berlin, which consists mainly of typewriting. I am advised that no junior accountant officers could be spared to undertake it.
