HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 c385W
MR. O'GRADY

asked the Food Controller whether, seeing that the foundation of whisky is mall:, and that if malt whisky is reduced below twenty-five under proof there is not enough alcohol therein to preserve the water, and if reduced below thirty under proof the water becomes stagnant and the whisky nauseous to taste, he will take steps to have whisky raised to a sanitary strength?

Mr. McCURDY

I cannot admit either the premises which the hon. and gallant Member has put forward or his conclusion that the present whisky is of an insanitary strength; although I am impressed with the novelty of his proposal for the enforcement of a sanitary standard for whisky.
