HC Deb 18 November 1919 vol 121 cc392-3W
Mr. FORESTIER-WALKER

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the Exchequer contribution of 4s. a week, being calculated at 50 per cent, of the cost of maintenance of pauper lunatics in an asylum, no longer represents an adequate contribution, in view of the fact that the cost of maintenance to-day ranges between 21s. and 28s. and whether he can hold out any hope of this matter being reconsidered by an amendment of the Local Government Act, 1888, so as to provide repayment to the guardians of at least half of the actual cost instead of, as at present, representing about one-eighth?

Dr. ADDISON

I can only refer the hon. Member to the reply given on the 28th ultimo to the hon. and gallant Member for the Isle of Ely.
