HC Deb 17 November 1919 vol 121 cc652-3W
MAJOR GLYN

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the probable withdrawal next week of all the omnibuses of the National Company running in London; whether he is aware that such a withdrawal will affect some 1,300 workers, of whom about 75 per cent, are ex-Service men; whether, in view of the fact that certain garages of this company have already been taken over by the London General Omnibus Company, representations will be made to the London General Omnibus Company to replace the steam omnibuses gradually and to absorb the National Company's workers before engaging other employés?

Sir R. WILLIAMS

I am aware that the National Steam Car Company are withdrawing omnibuses from service in London, and I am informed that the London General Omnibus Company are arranging to run their own vehicles on the routes previously worked by the National Company's steam cars. They have purchased both the Putney and Peckham garages of the National Company, and are prepared to register any of the employés of the latter company who desire to transfer with a view to favourable consideration of their employment.
